Festival of Whales, the eighth annual celebration of the winter migration of California’s gray whales, concludes Sunday in Dana Point with activities at sites throughout the harbor and La Plaza areas. The centerpiece for this weekend is the Lantern Bay Village Kids Karnival, featuring crafts, entertainment and other family fun from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Other activities include the Niguel Art Show, sailing and rowing clinics, Little Scientist workshops, historical programs aboard the tall ship Pilgrim, a campfire program and more. The drama and beauty of the Pacific Ocean is the theme of “A Brush With the Sea,” a juried show of marine art closing Sunday at the Newport Beach Nautical Museum. “An Act of the Imagination,” Bernard Slade’s story about a mystery writer who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation when he decides to try his hand at romance writing, closes Saturday at the Turtle Rock Park theater, 1 Sunnyhill Drive, Irvine.
