The City Council has sided with residents and told the owners of a South Coast Highway building that the 20 cellular phone antennas and satellite dishes on the roof have to be removed. Residents have complained for years that the antennas and dishes were an eyesore and released a high amount of radiation into the residential area. The council unanimously voted that the equipment had to be removed by the end of business today.

The council said the company owners, who were unavailable for comment Thursday, failed to seek approval from the Planning Commission for additional antennas they put on the roof.
