Stanford may have locked up the Pacific 10 Conference title two weeks ago, but it blew any chance of earning a No. 1 seeding in the NCAA tournament Saturday.

Josh Steinthal scored 19 points as Oregon State upset the No. 6 Cardinal, 59-45, at Corvallis, Ore.

Losses by Auburn and Maryland earlier in the day may have opened the door for Stanford, 25-6 overall, 15-3 in the Pac-10, to grab the No. 1 seeding in the West. But the Cardinal didn’t play like a team that had already clinched the Pac-10 title.

“We felt coming into the weekend that if there was going to be any consideration for the No. 1 seed, we had to win two,” said Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery, whose team defeated Oregon, 73-61, Thursday night.

Oregon State improved to 13-14 and 7-1.

Washington 76, Washington State 59--Todd MacCulloch had a season-high 32 points and 15 rebounds as the Huskies made their final argument for a berth in the NCAA tournament and won their final game at Hec Edmundson Pavilion before it undergoes $39 million in renovations.

Deon Luton added 20 points and Donald Watts 12 for Washington (17-11, 10-8), which will play in Seattle’s Key Arena next season.

Washington State (10-19, 4-14) lost its fourth in a row.

Oregon 93, California 82--The Ducks secured themselves at least a berth in the National Invitation Tournament as Alex Scales led the way with 21 points in a victory over the Bears at Eugene, Ore.

Cal (17-11, 8-10), which remains on the NCAA Tournament bubble heading into today’s selections, and the Ducks (16-11, 8-10) ended the regular season tied for fifth place in the Pac-10.
