Film Roman, the North Hollywood cartoon company best known for producing “The Simpsons,” has named a syndication expert to its board of directors.

James M. McNamara, president of new media company JMM Management and a former executive at Universal Television Enterprises, joined the board of Film Roman last week. McNamara will capitalize on his industry savvy and TV connections to help guide Film Roman into new areas of programming, said the company’s chief executive, David Pritchard.

McNamara helped produce some of Universal’s best known shows, including “Xena: Warrior Princess” and “Jerry Springer.” He also has extensive experience in overseas distribution.

McNamara’s appointment comes three weeks after Film Roman’s founder, Phil Roman, resigned to start up a small animation boutique in Studio City.
