SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Police were seeking a suspect Wednesday in the beating and rape of an 80-year-old woman in her Santa Ana home.

Investigators said a computer, television and VCR were stolen from the home of the woman, who was not identified. She was treated at a local hospital for bruises to her face and cuts on her hands, then released to a relative’s care, police said.

The victim described her attacker as a man about 30 years old, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with a stocky build and black hair. She said she thought she heard two other voices inside the house at the time of the attack, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Steve Despenas said.

“There’s a good possibility that [the attacker] was accompanied by a male and a female,” Despenas said. “But she could have been disoriented. He repeatedly struck her with a blunt object before raping her.”

The incident happened about 1 a.m. Wednesday. The man apparently entered through a window while the woman was sleeping, Despenas said.

“It happened so fast that she didn’t have time to get out of bed,” Despenas said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police investigators at (714) 245-8386.
