2 Teenage Girls Killed in Early Morning Crash

Two teenage girls were killed and two others were injured when their car careened into a tree while driving home from an all-night party, officials said Monday.

The four girls were northbound on Grand Avenue just south of San Jose Hills Road when the driver apparently fell asleep shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday. The car hit a tree, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy John Rodriguez.

Lynn Chen, 18, of Rancho Cucamonga and Suel Lee, 18, of Walnut were pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The two injured girls--Juli Kuo, 17, of Diamond Bar and Shion Sakiyoma, 18, of Walnut--were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.

Kuo was in fair condition, officials said, and Sakiyoma was in serious condition.

Bystanders pulled the two girls from the wreckage before the car burst into flames, killing the two girls trapped inside, officials said.

The teenagers told investigators that they were driving home from an all-night “rave” party in Los Angeles, Rodriguez said.

Police found open containers of alcohol in the trunk of the car, but are not attributing the accident to drunk driving, he said.

“At this point, we’re thinking that [the driver] fell asleep,” the deputy said. “They were up all night.”

All four teenagers were students at Walnut High School.
