Task Force Arrests Brother of Man Sought in Death

The Los Angeles FBI Fugitive Task Force may not always get its man.

But on Wednesday, when its man could not be found, the task force still arrested a man.

Task force members raided a house on Cozycroft Avenue about 7 a.m. looking for Martin Meza, who is wanted on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Bosley.

But Meza wasn’t home.

His brother Jose Meza, however, was home, and fled the house half naked as task force members arrived, authorities said.

Agents caught Jose Meza after a brief chase, and discovered he too was a wanted man, Bosley said.

Jose Meza, 33, was arrested on two misdemeanor assault warrants, she said.

Bosley said the task force is continuing to look for Martin Meza, 36, wanted in connection with a 1989 slaying in Compton and another attempted murder.

The task force includes FBI agents, LAPD officers and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, Bosley said.
