Police have identified a Sherman Oaks woman who was killed when she lost control of her car and ran off the southbound San Diego Freeway in Van Nuys.

Karem Terrazas, 23, crashed her car about 8 p.m. Tuesday near Victory Boulevard.

Witnesses told police that Terrazas was traveling in the carpool lane.

She started to exit the lane and lost control of her car, which rolled over a couple of times, ran off the freeway and struck a tree, said Officer Dwight MacDonald of the California Highway Patrol’s West Valley office.

No other vehicles were involved, according to witnesses.

Terrazas died of multiple blunt force injuries and her death has been ruled accidental, said Scott Carrier, coroner’s office spokesman.

Terrazas was identified by her brother, Fernando Terrazas of Los Angeles, MacDonald said. Her parents live in Bolivia, authorities said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

“We know what happened,” MacDonald said. “Now we have to find out why it happened.”
