Fullerton Buries Liberty, 14-0

Cal State Fullerton got four runs in the fifth and 10 in the sixth to defeat Liberty, 14-0, in a game shortened by the mercy rule Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton on the opening night of the Kia Classic.

Dara Marzolo and Chrissy Hartman each hit home runs in the 10-run inning. Marzolo’s two-run homer made the score 8-0 and Hartman homered to center.

Jana Oetgen (8-3) pitched a one-hitter for the Titans (14-9) and Leslie Inge took the loss for Liberty (11-12).

In the Sun West softball tournament:

Chapman 5, La Verne 3--Leslie Prochaska’s two-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie for the Panthers (14-1).

In an earlier game:

Chapman 9, Cazenovia (N.Y.) 1--Chapman had 11 hits, including doubles by Bankus, Prochaska, Amie Barnes, Stephanie Carew and Lisa Narducci. Tiffany Hoskins (5-1) gave up only three hits.
