Store Worker Accused of Assault Attempts

An employee of a women’s clothing store in the Buena Park Mall is facing charges he tried to sexually assault at least two female customers, including an undercover officer who helped arrest the suspect.

Waleed Madain, 41, of Anaheim, was arrested March 11 on suspicion of sexually assaulting a customer in a dressing room at Monet, a women’s clothing store.

The arrest came after an undercover officer investigating the report was also attacked, said Buena Park Police Sgt. Ken Coovert.

Authorities say they have reason to believe that at least three women may have been attacked and are asking any other victims or witnesses to come forward.

Madain, who worked at the store for about a year, was released from custody Sunday after posting $100,000 bail, officials said. He is scheduled to appear in court this month on four felony charges, including attempted rape, Coovert said.

Monet store managers did not return phone calls seeking comment Thursday. Buena Park Mall general manager Ken Kraus said the mall is cooperating with the investigation.

The suspect briefly returned to work Friday, but left after a television news crew arrived to report on the attacks.

Kraus stressed that the incident was an unusual one.

“This is a very isolated incident involving one particular individual,” Kraus said. “Each store is responsible for hiring their own employees and for conducting background checks.”

Anyone with any information about the assaults is asked to call police at (714) 562-3992.
