Orange Coast Defeats Pierce in Volleyball

Kyle Anderson and David Moser had 13 kills each to help Orange Coast sweep visiting Los Angeles Pierce, 15-13, 15-10, 15-13, in an inter-conference men’s volleyball matchFriday night at OCC.

Orange Coast (12-1, 9-1) remained tied for first place with Golden West in the Orange Empire Conference and Los Angeles Pierce (7-2) is in first place in the South Coast Conference.

Aaron Wong had 22 kills and teammate James Hemenober had 19 for Pierce (7-2).

In other conference matches:

Golden West 3, Santa Barbara 0--Scott Ogilvie had 13 kills and Jon Thompson contributed 12 as the host Rustlers won, 15-9, 15-7, 15-3. Evan Hook, Austin George, Chad Mowrey and Scott Archbold also had 11 kills apiece for Golden West.

Ben Koski and Daniel Rizzo led Santa Barbara (5-6) with 26 and 15 kills, respectively.

Long Beach 3, Irvine Valley 0--Long Beach (8-3) won 15-2, 15-0, 15-8. Ryan Bush was the kill leader for host Irvine Valley (1-8) with 13.

In the Rio Hondo golf invitational:

Saddleback wins--Burley Stamps shot a one-over par 72 to lead Saddleback to the victory at California Country Club in Whittier. Saddleback finished at 284 and Santa Ana was second at 285.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Fullerton 8, Irvine Valley 1--Michelle Bye was two for three for the visiting Hornets (19-7, 4-3), who won their 11th in a row.

Michelle Iby had three hits for Irvine Valley (5-9, 1-5).

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Santa Barbara 1--Jason Gavilan and Burt Gonzell won their singles matches and then teamed up to win, 6-0, 6-3 in doubles. Gavilan won, 6-3, 6-4, and Gonzell won, 6-1, 6-0, in singles as Saddleback improved to 10-0.
