Feeling fatalistic? New works by the Smuin Ballets/SF at Cal State L.A. mock freewill as a childish dream--something easily destroyed by the erotic obsession shaping the plot of “The Blue Angel” (on Saturday’s program) or taking one of the other potent forms outlined in the destiny-obsessed text of “Carmina Burana” (on Sunday). Music ranges from Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” score to “Falling in Love Again,” the Hollaender-Connelly ballad sung by Marlene Dietrich in the 1930 film of “The Blue Angel.” Supplementing these two novelties by choreographer Michael Smuin: excerpts from his familiar pop suite “Dances With Songs.”

* Smuin Ballets/SF, Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Cal State L.A. campus, 5151 State University Drive, East Los Angeles. Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. $35-$40. (213) 343-6600.
