Sound Source to Add Games for Younger Kids

Share

Sound Source Interactive Inc., a Calabasas software company that makes CD-ROM games for children, is branching out in a new direction: the game market for Nintendo Gameboy and Sony PlayStation.

Sound Source, which specializes in games based on movies such as “The Land Before Time” and “Babe,” says the game console market doesn’t have enough choices for younger children and is ripe for new competition.

“The CD-ROM marketplace is incredibly crowded, with thousands of titles,” said Vincent Bitetti, the chairman and chief executive of Sound Source. “But PlayStation has only a couple hundred titles and most of those are for older kids. We feel the younger kids market is underserved.”

Sound Source plans to release Sony and Nintendo versions of its games, including “The Land Before Time,” by next March. The stock closed on Monday at 88 cents a share, unchanged for the day.
