UCLA scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and defeated No. 15 USC, 3-2, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Saturday in front of a season-high crowd of 1,242 at USC’s Dedeaux Field.
USC right-hander Justin Lehr, after cruising through eight innings, was pulled with a 2-0 lead after giving up a one-out single to UCLA’s Chase Utley in the ninth. Three USC relievers gave up a walk, an RBI single to Garrett Atkins, an RBI single to Jason Green and an infield single to Matt Pearl that scored Atkins from second.
The Trojans, 30-21 overall and 15-5 in the Pac-10, went down in order in the bottom of the ninth, making a winner of sophomore right-hander Chad Cislak (4-1), who pitched three scoreless innings for the Bruins (25-26, 9-8).
The teams meet again today at 1 p.m. at Dedeaux Field.
