SONORA--Since 1916 this Gold Country town has celebrated Mother’s Day weekend with the Mother Lode Round-Up. Festivities include a three-day rodeo beginning Friday, May 7, a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, mechanical bull rides all weekend and a Mother’s Day breakfast on Sunday, 8 a.m.-noon ($5.50; $3 for ages 7-12; free to 6 and younger). LINCOLN--Descendants of Portuguese settlers who arrived in the area in the late 1800s host the Portuguese Festival Saturday and next Sunday, May 8-9. FORT JONES--This Scott Valley community will celebrate Frontier Day on Saturday, May 8. The festival includes crafts by local artists, a bake sale, carriage rides and musician jam sessions. OXNARD--Prepare to eat your way through the Strawberry Festival May 15-16.
