According to the accident report released Tuesday, Steve Chiasson was traveling at about 74 mph in a 55-mph zone when his pickup truck went out of control at Raleigh, N.C., killing the 32-year-old Carolina defenseman early Monday.

Highway Patrol Trooper K.L. Horne said he was awaiting results of a blood test, which could take two or three weeks, before commenting on whether alcohol played a role. But the report issued listed intoxication as an accident factor.

The NHL will file papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Pittsburgh describing its intended course of action should Mario Lemieux’s reorganization plan for the Penguins not be approved in a confirmation hearing. League officials support Lemieux’s plan to rescue the Penguins from bankruptcy but hoped to have matters settled by June 1. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman selected that date to expedite what has become a prolonged process. The NHL also needs time to schedule for next season.
