King Records 18 Strikeouts for No. 3 Barons

Natalie King struck out 18, her season high, and third-ranked Fountain Valley scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Los Alamitos, 2-0, in a Sunset League softball game Thursday at Los Alamitos.

Inez Vasquez scored on an error with one out and Colleen Burdick tripled to drive in King, who reached base on an error.

King (7-4) gave up three hits and increased her season strikeout total to 147.

Jenny Doezie went three for five for the visiting Barons (19-7, 7-1). The Griffins (12-12, 4-4) were eliminated from title consideration.

In other Sunset League games:

No. 7 Marina 2, Huntington Beach 1--Marina’s Sarah Pagano doubled to score pinch-runner Bree Boyer and Devin Sailor with two outs in the top of the seventh. Huntington Beach (8-16, 0-8) had a runner in scoring position with one out, but Brooke Crouch (8-2) retired the next two batters in the bottom of the inning. She struck out four for the visiting Vikings (17-9, 6-2).

Esperanza 1, Edison 0-Freshman Heather Rangel hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for host Esperanza (11-11, 3-5). Rangel finished two for three. Junior Jaime Vankeirsbelk pitched seven innings, struck out eight, walked none and gave up two hits for the Aztecs.

In the Century League:

No. 1 Foothill 6, Canyon 1--Jaime Clark went three for four with two doubles and three RBIs, giving her 31, and Tiffany Haas had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for visiting Foothill (25-3, 8-0).

Santa Ana Valley 5, Orange 0--Senior right fielder B.B. De La Riva was two for three with three RBIs for Santa Ana Valley (13-12, 3-5). Winning pitcher Arlene Newton, a freshman, allowed three hits.

In the Express League:

Liberty Christian 13, Palos Verdes Estates Rolling Hills Prep 0 (5 mercy)--Junior catcher Tristan Fernandez had two hits and three RBIs, and junior second baseman Brianna Barton added two hits, for Liberty Christian (19-1, 6-0).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 2, Sunny Hills 1--Kaysie Thompson had two hits as La Habra (13-12, 6-2) remained tied for first place.

Sonora 1, Fullerton 0--With two outs in the third, Dawn Ramynke singled, stole second and scored on a double by Stephanie Santana. Andee Lindgren (10-3) struck out six and walked two in her second no-hitter for host Sonora (20-6, 6-2). Fullerton is 11-12, 2-6.
