City housing officials recently applied for a $100,000 federal grant to help operate the new Local Housing Counseling Agency, 201 S. Anaheim Blvd. The agency provides counseling services, workshops and informational sessions for potential home buyers, homeowners and renters, said Bertha Chavoya, housing manager. Chavoya said this is the first time the Housing Authority has applied for the grant and anticipates a response from the Department of Housing and Urban Development later this year.

The city, she said, has an aggressive first-time home buyers program and has helped more than 350 residents since 1991. The HUD funds, if approved, will greatly improve housing-related services for residents, she said.
