A substitute teacher was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation Wednesday after he allegedly removed some of his clothing in front of his fourth-grade students, authorities said.

LAPD detectives are interviewing students at El Sereno Elementary School and investigating the incident, said school spokesman Don Cox.

“The teacher removed some articles of clothing,” said Socorro Serrano, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District. “At the time . . . he displayed some bizarre behavior and was taken to a nearby hospital.”

Counselors were sent to the school to talk to the students, Serrano said. The principal, Corby Alsbrook, sent a letter home with the students explaining the incident. Alsbrook also scheduled a meeting with parents in the school library at 8:30 a.m. today.
