The South Gate City Council is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for shooting Mayor Henry Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was shot in the head April 13 as he returned home from a routine council meeting. He was released after a week in the hospital and is recovering from the wound.

Police said a witness described the assailant as a young Latino man, 20 to 25 years old, wearing dark clothes. After shooting the mayor, the man ran to a gray four-door Honda that was driven by a second person. Police are also looking for an unidentified man who was seen acting suspiciously at City Hall a few hours before the shooting. The man was caught on a surveillance camera.
