Learn to Turn Left, Los Angeles!

Will someone please teach Los Angeles drivers how to properly execute a left turn? It’s bad enough that our city streets are clogged to the brim; this lazy ignorance isn’t helping matters. Since there obviously isn’t enough money in the budget to set up umpteen left turn arrow lights, at least more than one car could get through per light if the population at large knew the rules of the road.

When I went to driving school, I was taught that once the light turned green, I should pull up into the middle of the intersection, wait for an opening or the yellow light, then complete the turn. No one else seems to have been taught this lesson. Today when the light turns green, most drivers stay behind the crosswalk lines until the traffic opens, the light turns yellow, or more often than not, until the light turns red. Unless, of course, they just cut in front of oncoming traffic when the mood suits them.

I’ve often wondered why radio, television stations and the local newspapers don’t run public service announcements about traffic laws. It seems to me this would be a great way to help the community and keep things moving along.
