Aid Still Available for Freeze Victims
Ventura County residents who suffered damage or losses because of the severe freeze in late December may still call for disaster assistance.
Beginning Monday and until further notice, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s toll-free lines for freeze victims will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The number is (800) 745-0243 or, for people with speech or hearing impairments, (800) 462-7585.
Seven counties, in addition to Ventura County, have been designated as disaster areas: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Monterey and Tulare.
The federal agency and the governor’s office of emergency services encourage people who were affected by the freeze Dec. 20-28 and who live or work in those counties to register for help.
According to FEMA, more than 5,300 applicants have registered.
