A 22-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after leading police on a wild car chase, then daring officers to kill him, authorities said.

Police used pepper spray to subdue Felix Cabrera about 2 a.m. outside his South Gate home, said Cypress police Lt. Mike Idom.

The 15-minute pursuit began in Cypress when officers noticed Cabrera’s black 1986 Cadillac driving with its lights off, Idom said. As the officers tried to catch up with the car, Cabrera accelerated and sped through a red light, he said.

Police followed him onto the 605 Freeway, then west on the Century Freeway, where Cabrera got off at Paramount Boulevard and stopped at his home, Idom said.

When he got out of his car, Cabrera taunted officers with obscene gestures and language, Idom said. He removed his shirt, showed the officers that he was unarmed and told them to kill him, he said.

He was arrested on suspicion of evading police and resisting arrest. He also was booked on a charge of malicious mischief after he damaged the police car in which he was taken to jail by kicking its interior, police said.
