The City Council tonight is expected to approve improvements to the four-acre Village Pond Park on Ridge Route Drive, over the objections of about 150 residents who have signed a petition opposing the project. They contend the added amenities will attract more people and destroy the neighborhood’s enjoyment of the park.

The proposed improvements to Village Pond, at an estimated cost of $29,670, are a small part of a citywide park improvement project. The council is set to award the contract for the whole project, which includes improvements to all 16 city parks, at the meeting. The contract is worth $780,646. The council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 23161 Lake Forest Drive.
