City Council members tonight will consider controversial measures limiting garage sales and restricting advertising signs. If approved, the garage sale ordinance would limit residents to two sales a year, and the sales could run for only two consecutive days. Other requirements would allow residents to sell only used personal property and to display all items on their private lawns or driveways.

Another proposed ordinance would limit the placement, size and quantity of advertising signs in commercial and residential areas. Under the proposal, temporary signs such as promotional banners will be allowed only for grand openings and other special events. The council meets at 7 p.m. in chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
