Bernson Proposes Study to Justify Strip Club Rules

City Councilman Hal Bernson of Granada Hills proposed Tuesday that the city spend $175,000 on a study of adult entertainment businesses that could be used to justify new restrictions on the strip clubs in Los Angeles.

Bernson introduced a motion at the City Council meeting asking for the funding.

He and other council members had previously proposed new rules, including a measure that would increase from 500 to 1,000 feet the minimum distance adult businesses must be from schools, parks and residential neighborhoods.

The city attorney’s office has warned, however, that the city could be successfully sued over new rules unless it can show that the current rules are insufficient to protect the public welfare.

“The further regulation of adult businesses makes it necessary to study the secondary effects of these types of uses to protect the residents of the city,” Bernson said.
