Police Det. Derek Rowland will show parents just how easy it is for children to gain access to pornographic material or communicate with dangerous people through the Internet in a class set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Spring View Middle School, 16662 Trudy Lane. “I was totally unaware of how much information could really come off of the Internet and what could be in my children’s hands,” said Donna Alexander, president of Spring View’s Parent-Teacher-Student Assn., who attended the class last year.

Rowland will show participants various Web sites and chat rooms, and will profile the characteristics of an online pedophile. Alexander said she was on the edge of her seat when she watched Rowland enter a chat room acting as a young child. The ensuing conversation with a stranger quickly turned sexual.
