A pioneer of both feminist and theatrically based intermedia art, the New York-born artist first gained notoriety in the early 1970s for “100 Boots,” a series of 51 postcards mailed to art world figures around the world which chronicled the cross-country trek of 100 pairs of rubber boots. The boots will be displayed at LACMA in only their second installation along with Antin’s early text-based conceptual works, consumer-goods “portraits,” videos, recorded performances, films and other works.
