Sneakers Store That’s the Right Fit
When a reader asked why I had never written about Sneakerland, I had to confess I didn’t know of it.
After checking it out, I had to wonder how I had missed this one since it really is my kind of place. In addition to quality and price, they actually measure feet and kneel down and put the shoe on your foot. You may get that type of treatment at upscale specialty stores, but when was the last time you got that service buying sneakers at discount prices?
A family operation serving the Valley since 1982, Sneakerland carries nearly all major brands of athletic shoes for every sport--walking, running, tennis, aerobics, basketball, football, baseball, track--and just plain casual.
You’re probably familiar with most of the names on the boxes: Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Converse, Puma, K-Swiss and several others, including the largest inventory of New Balance footwear in Southern California.
Unlike some other discounters, these are not last year’s models or styles that didn’t sell, but some of the newest and hottest styles out there.
Start with the Superstar by Adidas that sells for $55 at most stores but is $43.99 here. Or the top-of-the-line men’s running shoe from New Balance, the M1700, which is $175 at some stores but $129.99 here.
Shoes with cosmetic blemishes (slight flaws you probably would not notice) are even better deals. The $70 CT690 tennis shoe from New Balance at $39.99 is a deal, and the Jack Purcell classic from Converse is down from $38 retail to $19.99.
Now we know why the bargain shopper who phoned has been buying here for 15 years.

Weekend Super Sales: The best sales are usually at stores that always offer discounted prices and knock off even more at sale time. The Summer Clearance at Sara’s for women’s apparel is one such place. The sale starts today and continues through the month. You can deduct another 25% off the already good prices. For instance, a two-piece linen suit that retails for $179 and regularly sells here for $89 is now tagged at $66.25. Washable linen separates are $19.95 (retail $59).

A huge liquidation sale of sportswear for the entire family is on today and tomorrow at Kido International. The prices are 50% to 60% below wholesale on big-name manufacturers of quality clothing for men, women and children. T-shirts are $2.50, pants $8 and sweaters $13. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
