Broad Coliseum Plan Has Parking Options

Eli Broad, representing the New Coliseum, said Thursday he will present alternative parking plans to league owners in Atlanta next week, along with a stadium plan meeting an NFL request to reduce seating capacity from 66,000 to 60,000.

“We are ready to present the strongest financial plan, solve their parking concerns and present a great stadium plan,” said Broad, while all but guaranteeing sellouts in the new stadium. “We’re not going to have blackouts.”

The NFL has designated the Coliseum as the site for a planned expansion team, but has not selected the team owner or owners. Michael Ovitz, a Hollywood deal maker, will also make a proposal on the stadium and parking Monday in Atlanta.

Broad said his group will offer four proposals for parking, one that would have a parking garage and would add $80 million to $90 million to the proposed $350-million stadium remodeling. The high end proposal would be for underground parking, which would cost an additional $270 million.

Broad said his group was not recommending the underground parking, but added, “We will do it if they want it.”
