Pesticides’ Toll on Fish, Birds Detailed

Share

Information about birds and fish that have died in Ventura County after ingesting pesticides is part of a report to be released today by the Pesticide Action Network.

The report, “Disrupting the Balance: Ecological Impacts of Pesticides in California,” includes figures for bird and fish deaths throughout the state and the types of pesticides involved, a network spokesman said.

The report was written by a staff scientist for Pesticide Action Network, an international nonprofit organization that represents 400 citizen groups. The network studies the consequences of pesticide use.

The report was based on research of scholarly journal articles about pesticides, said Brad Heavner, a spokesman for the California Public Trust Research Group, another nonprofit organization that studies pesticide use.

The research will be discussed during a conference scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Bird Sanctuary in Santa Barbara.
