Full-Moon Hike to Be Offered a Night Early
The full moon will not be out until Saturday, but the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a full-moon hike tonight at 8.
Great horned owls and opossums are among the nocturnal creatures that visitors might see as they hike near the Placerita Canyon Nature Center. It will be the only time the park is open for viewing at night, said Kathleen Ritner, a natural areas ranger for the county Department of Parks and Recreation.
“I think you’ll hear a lot of sounds from nature and fewer sounds from traffic,” Ritner said. “You’ll be able to hear and see so much more than you would in the daytime.”
Various trails about a mile or less in length will be offered. Hikers are advised to bring a flashlight and wear good walking shoes.
Donations for the hike are requested, and parking is free. Large groups should call in advance.
