The Planning Commission voted 3 to 2 Wednesday to approve plans for a 60-bed Alzheimer’s treatment home at Yorba Linda Boulevard and Summit Drive. Residents protested during the three-hour public hearing that they would lose their privacy and their property values. The 27,000-square-foot, one-story structure, which they consider a commercial building, would not fit in a quiet neighborhood filled with older homes on half-acre lots, neighbors said.

But developers say the residential nature of the 2.6-acre property, which has remained vacant for more than 20 years, is one reason the site is perfect for the treatment home. They said the structure will be consistent with the style of the neighborhood.

The issue will go before the City Council on Tuesday. Residents said they will continue to fight the project.
