Chatsworth 5, Roosevelt 4--Maybe Chatsworth circled the wrong Thursday on its calendar.

The championship-game atmosphere and the theatrical finish were supposed to take place next Thursday at Dodger Stadium, though the Chancellors will settle for a dramatic victory over resilient Roosevelt at Chatsworth.

The top-seeded Chancellors (25-3) were coasting, then came close to crashing before Steve Kracow bailed them out with a game-winning, run-scoring double in the seventh inning.

Kracow, Chatsworth’s hottest hitter, stroked the ball to the right-center gap with one out to drive in Matt Fisher from second base.

Roosevelt (19-5), seeded No. 8, had tied the score, 4-4, in the seventh on a two-out home run by Francisco Arteaga, his first of the season.

Kracow finished four for four with two doubles, a triple and a single, and is seven for seven in two playoff games. Kracow took offense that Roosevelt intentionally walked Scott Selz to pitch to him in the seventh.

“That psyched me up,” Kracow said. “They wanted to battle, they got a battle.”

Chatsworth (25-3) plays No. 12 South Gate (20-11) in a semifinal Tuesday at a site to be determined.

Sellz struggled on the mound for Chatsworth and was replaced in the sixth by Mike Kunes (12-1), who promptly gave up a two-run home run to Antonio Gonzalez that pulled Roosevelt to within 4-3.
