The South Laguna commercial area may get some new guidelines for future development.

City Council member Kathleen Blackburn requested that the council add a discussion of the South Laguna commercial zone to Tuesday’s agenda because residents have expressed concern about how things have been changing.

Blackburn, who lives near the area, said that in the past, South Laguna has felt like a village with businesses such as a pharmacy, locally owned stores and a branch of the Orange County Library housed within a store front.

The idea is to develop a comprehensive planning and development plan that would encourage certain types of businesses and shared parking to enhance the area, Blackburn said.

The planning commission also is scheduled to look at the same area in December 2000.
