City officials want residents to rest assured that disaster will not strike when the clock strikes midnight Jan. 1.
The City Council will file and accept San Clemente’s final Y2K report at Wednesday’s council meeting, ending years of preparation for the computer bug many fear will wreak havoc with the coming of 2000.
A San Clemente staff report states that the city has been planning for Y2K issues since 1990, when city officials compiled a long-term computer strategic plan that postponed the replacement of major computer systems and upgrades for the city’s financial systems until late 1998.
The report states that all of the city’s personal computers are considered Y2K compliant and passed a formal citywide test April 1. The city also is confident that all of its major maintenance services divisions will be unaffected by the turn of the new year.
