Share

The Nov. 19 deadline for membership on next year’s Ventura County Junior Fair Board is fast approaching, and officials are encouraging interested teens to apply during the next two weeks.

The Junior Fair Board was created in the 1970s to give young adults an opportunity to develop leadership skills and to perform a community service by assisting in the planning of fair events.

Twenty members, ages 15 to 20, are selected annually based on their written applications, letters of recommendation, and interviews with advisors and managers at Seaside Park in Ventura.

Interviews for the 2000 term, which will run from January to October, will be held in December.

The board is active throughout the year, meeting monthly to plan fair events, such as the pie-eating and hog-calling contests. Members also assist with fair functions such as community outreach.

Applications are available at Seaside Park in Ventura. For more information, call 648-3376.
