The man killed when a big rig crashed into the rear of his car, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed the car and the front of the tractor-trailer, was identified late Monday as Makoto Mark Kato, 65, of Villa Park, police in Orange said.

Police are holding the big-rig driver, Raymond Daniel Glenn, 39, of Reno, on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and suspicion of felony drunk driving in the fiery chain-reaction crash that also injured several others Sunday.

A spokeswoman from the Orange County district attorney’s office said detectives have not yet filed charges against Glenn but are expected to within a day or two.

Glenn, an employee at Bekins Moving and Storage Co. in Anaheim, was driving his own tractor-trailer at the time of the accident.

Police said he lost control of his truck at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Main Street at about 12:30 p.m., ramming into the back of a black Mercedes-Benz that had been waiting to turn left at a traffic light. The driver of the car was trapped as the car burst into flames almost immediately, killing him.
