A security guard and father of two, working his last shift before taking a job as a salesman, was shot and killed in a condominium complex in Watts on Sunday night, authorities said.

Jose Francisco Flamenco, 34, of the Mid-Wilshire area, was walking inside the secured complex around 9 p.m. when one or two suspects began shooting at him from the courtyard, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sal LaBarbera.

Flamenco, who worked for S&J; Security, was struck multiple times and died at the scene on the 9300 block of South Maie Avenue, LaBarbera said. Flamenco was armed, but it was unclear whether he had a chance to reach for his gun, the detective said.
