Doheny State Beach, which has carried warnings about the water’s potentially hazardous bacteria levels since mid-October, will probably carry the Orange County Health Care Agency’s postings for several more weeks, a spokeswoman said.

Although water samples taken Monday showed the water near Doheny contained a relatively safe amount of bacteria, samples drawn last week violated a number of state standards for water quality, agency spokeswoman Monica Mazur said.

Although Monday’s sample may indicate that Doheny is clearing, Mazur said the swimming restrictions hinge on a 30-day average bacteria count that currently exceeds what the agency deems safe.
