Cases Before Court
Lately there has been debate regarding how completely evidence should be forbidden in court if the Miranda warning is not given properly (Nov. 2). What we should be debating is how to change the Constitution to permit all evidence to be presented, no matter how it is obtained. In such a system, defense lawyers could tell juries that certain evidence would not have been permitted under the old system. Also, policemen could be punished if they gather evidence improperly. It is time to punish criminals instead of justice.

The Supreme Court rejected a free speech argument, upholding a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., ordinance prohibiting “soliciting, begging or panhandling” (Nov. 2).
It’s curious--a starving soul is denied 1st Amendment protection to ask for a bit of food, yet some say the 1st Amendment protects those who lavish thousands of dollars on pet politicians.
