Zambia’s founding president and current opposition leader Kenneth D. Kaunda said he believes his son and political heir was killed by people in authority who wanted to get rid of a potential rival. Wezi Kaunda, 47, died in a hospital Thursday, a day after unknown assailants forced him out of his car outside his Lusaka home and shot him several times. “Those in government and those who opposed my leadership within [the opposition United National Independence Party]--the rebels in other words--I hold these responsible for the death of my son,” Kaunda told the British Broadcasting Corp. Police believe that robbery was a motive in the attack.
