Dodgers Near a Deal to Bring Green to L.A.

The Angels have received permission from the Cincinnati Reds to interview former Angel catcher Bob Boone, bringing to at least seven the number of managerial candidates new General Manager Bill Stoneman will meet this week.

Also scheduled to be interviewed are former Dodger Scioscia, Oakland bench coach Ken Macha, New York Yankee coaches Willie Randolph and Chris Chambliss, Philadelphia batting instructor Hal McRae and Angel bench coach Joe Maddon.

Stoneman also had an informal meeting with Angel free-agent pitcher Chuck Finley Sunday at Dana Point.

Stoneman said specific contract proposals were not discussed but that he and Finley planned to meet again next week in an effort to sign the veteran left-hander.

Boone, father of Atlanta second baseman Bret Boone and Cincinnati third baseman Aaron Boone, batted .254 during a 19-year big league career with Philadelphia, the Angels and Kansas City, playing on the Angel playoff teams of 1982 and 1986.

He spent 2 1/2 years as the manager in Kansas City, guiding the Royals to a 181-206 record from 1995-97. Boone is currently a special advisor to Cincinnati General Manager Jim Bowden.
