Landscape Artist Designing World Garden Park

THOUSAND OAKS — A formal design for a future park on Thousand Oaks Boulevard across from the Civic Arts Plaza will be presented to the city early next month, according to its designer.
Wendy Harper, a landscape architect in Moorpark, has been planning the look of the “Gardens of the World” park since she was hired as the designer by the Hogan Family Foundation in late September.
The Westlake Village-based foundation, headed by Ed and Lynn Hogan, purchased the six-acre plot across from the plaza for nearly $3 million in early September.
The park, which requires City Council approval, would have small clusters representing various gardens throughout the world. In addition, the design calls for a walking trail, picnic tables, a bandstand and possibly a two-story, 5,000-square-foot resource center that could be used for community groups, school functions and wedding receptions, according to Christina Hunter, program director for the foundation.
Harper presented a rough outline of the park to the Hogans on Friday.
“This park is a nice contribution to the city of Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley and other areas,” Harper said.
If the council approves the plan, construction should begin sometime next spring and would probably be completed by late next year, Harper said.
