Los Angeles Times Posts Circulation Gains

The Los Angeles Times reported gains in daily and Sunday circulation, attributing the rise to a joint sales effort in which copies of The Times are bundled with those of La Opinion, the Spanish-language daily. Daily paid circulation of The Times for the six-month period ended Sept. 30, increased by 10,646, or 1%, to 1,078,186 from the year-ago period, according to figures filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations. It was the seventh consecutive year-over-year gain for The Times, the paper said. Sunday circulation rose by 992 to 1,362,195 during the same period. The Times also announced the completion of a separate, independently audited statement of circulation for the quarter ended Sept. 30. That measure put daily circulation at 1,126,335 and Sunday at 1,383,571. Nationwide, USA Today inched ahead of the Wall Street Journal in circulation, making it the nation’s largest daily newspaper for the first time. The New York Times came in third, followed by the Los Angeles Times.
