Love Ride 16 Revs Up Sunday

Share

More than 20,000 motorcyclists are expected to hit the pavement Sunday, and raise money for two charitable causes in the process, during Love Ride 16, the annual 50-mile caravan from Glendale to Castaic Lake.

The event is expected to raise more than $1 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. and the Reading by 9 literacy program of The Times, which is one of the event’s corporate sponsors. Actor Lorenzo Lamas will serve as grand marshal, and “Easy Rider” star Peter Fonda will return as honorary grand marshal.

The ride will convene at Harley-Davidson of Glendale, 3717 San Fernando Road, between Los Feliz and Brand boulevards. Preregistration has already closed, but riders can register on site starting at 6 a.m. The caravan of bikes will begin at 10 a.m.

Upon arrival at Castaic, riders (as well as non-riders who choose to four-wheel it to the lake) can partake of live music from rocker Sammy Hagar starting at 1 p.m., a catered barbecue and a motorcycle trade show involving more than 100 vendors.

To participate, riders must donate a minimum of $50. Prizes will be awarded to participants who raise larger amounts through their own contributions and sponsor pledges.
