Rookie Biron Leads Sabres to Another Win

Rookie goaltender Martin Biron posted his fourth consecutive victory and the Buffalo Sabres erupted for three goals in the second period to snap Boston’s six-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory Wednesday night at Buffalo, N.Y.
Biron (6-1) made 21 saves, including 12 in the first period, and the Sabres (7-7-2) won for the fourth time in a row and the sixth in their last seven.

Florida 4, Atlanta 1--Rob Niedermayer and Scott Mellanby scored power-play goals and Ray Whitney had three assists to lead the Panthers at Sunrise, Fla.
New York Islanders 2, Carolina 0--Felix Potvin stopped 25 shots for his 13th career shutout in the victory at Raleigh, N.C.
Ottawa 4, New York Rangers 3--Patrick Lalime made 38 saves and Chris Phillips scored the game-winner with 5:35 left to give the Senators a comeback victory at New York.
Pittsburgh 5, Montreal 4--Jaromir Jagr’s second goal of the game with 50 seconds left at Pittsburgh completed a four-goal comeback that ended the Penguins’ eight-game winless streak.
Nashville 4, Chicago 2--Rob Valicevic scored three times in a four-goal first period for the Predators’ first hat trick in a victory at Chicago.
Detroit 4, Dallas 2--Steve Yzerman scored two goals, the second a short-handed tally early in the third period as the Red Wings won at Dallas.
Phoenix 5, Edmonton 4--Jyrki Lumme scored 1:51 into overtime and Keith Tkachuk added two goals to lead the Coyotes at Phoenix.
Calgary 4, San Jose 3--Cory Stillman’s power-play goal with 37 seconds left in overtime gave the Flames a victory at Calgary, Canada, over the league-leading Sharks.
