Police Investigate Fatal Shootings of 2 Brothers
Los Angeles police were investigating the deaths Friday of two brothers who were found shot several times and dumped miles apart on streets in Compton and downtown Los Angeles.
The body of Calvin Nettles, 34, was found Thursday morning in the middle of the road at 16th Street and Central Avenue, said Scott Carrier, spokesman for the Los Angeles county coroner.
Los Angeles police officers went to the intersection at 3:20 a.m. in response to an anonymous caller who thought the man had been the victim of a hit-and-run accident, police said.
LAPD Officer Charlotte Broughton said the man had been shot several times in the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.
About four hours later, at 7:10 a.m., the coroner’s office was dispatched to the 900 block of Greenleaf Drive in Compton where the body of Ricky Nettles, 39, was found in about the same condition.
The two bodies were found about eight miles apart.
The LAPD’s robbery-homicide detectives, who are investigating both deaths, said it appeared that one or both brothers had been tortured. Police declined to release more information, saying that the investigation is ongoing.
