Educators Offered Epilepsy Training

Share

Learning how to respond to a child having an epileptic seizure is the focus of a new one-hour training session being offered to educators throughout Southern California, including Ventura County.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties has launched its “Be Seizure Smart” program in schools and community centers throughout the region.

According to the foundation, the program educates teachers, school nurses, special education staff, cafeteria workers and others on how to recognize and respond to a student having a seizure.

The program also offers tips to teachers on how to foster a sympathetic classroom environment for students with epilepsy.

People who complete the course will learn to identify three primary types of seizures and first-aid responses for each.
