The Brea Olinda Unified School District is expanding its school safety and violence program with a $96,000 grant from the state. The money will pay for a full-time, uniformed police officer at Brea Olinda and Brea Canyon high schools. Some remaining money would pay for walkie-talkies at the high schools and at Brea Junior High School.

Brea Police Officer Gregg Hayden has been working at the schools on a part-time basis, but the district hired him on a full-time basis almost three weeks ago, planning on reimbursing itself with the grant.
